Privacy Policy
This privacy policy has been compiled to better serve those who are concerned with how their “Personally Identifiable Information” (PII) is being used online. PII, as described in US privacy law and information security, is information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person, or to identify an individual in context. Please read our privacy policy carefully to get a clear understanding of how we collect, use, protect, or otherwise handle your Personally Identifiable Information in relation to our website.
Information We Collect
We collect two kinds of information: the information you directly provide to us and the information automatically collected by WordPress, Automattic, and Hu-manity Rights.
Information You Provide to Us
When you subscribe to John Pierce’s email list, request a free assessment, or submit a message through one of our contact forms, you provide us with your name and email address.
Information Collected Automatically
Our website hosts WordPress and Automattic and our cookie compliance manager Hu-manity Rights also collect some information automatically:
- Log information: Like most online service providers, they collect information that web browsers, mobile devices, and servers typically make available, including the browser type, IP address, unique device identifiers, language preference, referring site, the date and time of access, operating system, and mobile network information.
- Location information: They may determine the approximate location of your device from your IP address. They collect and use this information to, for example, calculate how many people visit JohnPierceAuthor.com from certain geographic regions.
- Information from cookies & other technologies: A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. Pixel tags (also called web beacons) are small blocks of code placed on websites and emails. Automattic and Hu-manity Rights use cookies and other technologies like pixel tags to help identify and track visitors, usage, and access preferences, as well as track and understand email campaign effectiveness and to deliver targeted ads. For more information about Automattic’s use of cookies, please see Automattic’s Cookie Policy.
How do we use your information?
We use this information in the following ways:
• To provide you the mailing list subscription you request
• To respond to your requests sent through our website
• To personalize your experience and to allow us to deliver the type of content and product offerings in which you are most interested
• To improve our website in order to better serve you
How do we protect your information?
We implement a variety of security measures when a user enters, submits, or accesses their information to maintain the safety of your personal information. Your personal information is contained behind secured networks operated by WordPress and Mailchimp and is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to such systems and are required to keep the information confidential.
Do we use “cookies”?
Yes. Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your web browser (if you allow) that enables the site’s or service provider’s systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information. For instance, we use cookies to help us remember and process your logins. They are also used to help us understand your preferences based on previous or current site activity, which enables us to provide you with improved services. We also use cookies to help us compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interaction so that we can offer better site experiences and tools in the future.
Legal Bases for Collecting and Using Information
A note for those in the European Union (EU) about our legal grounds for processing information about you under EU data protection laws:
